About the stadium
Opened in 2002 in southern Houston as the NFL's first stadium with a fully retractable roof. Home to the Houston Texans (NFL) and to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, one of the largest annual rodeos in the world. Permanent capacity is around 72,000. The venue hosted Super Bowl XXXVIII (2004) and Super Bowl LI (2017, remembered for New England's comeback from a 25-point deficit in the third quarter), along with matches at Copa America Centenario and the Concacaf Gold Cup. At the 2026 World Cup it stages seven matches: five group games, a Round of 32, and a Round of 16 on July 4. It operates as Houston Stadium during the tournament.
