About the city
Toronto is Canada's largest city, with a Greater Toronto Area metro of about 6.7 million people, the fourth-largest in North America. The city hosts six World Cup 2026 matches at BMO Field (renamed Toronto Stadium), home of Toronto FC, the 2017 MLS Cup champions. The venue's regular capacity of 28,000 has been temporarily expanded to 45,700 for the tournament. Canada opens the tournament here on 12 June against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The city also fields the Toronto Raptors (NBA, 2019 champions), Maple Leafs (NHL) and Blue Jays (MLB). The main airport is Toronto Pearson (YYZ), Canada's largest and an Air Canada hub. June weather is mild, 20-26 °C.
